What size and type of supply do I own or operate?

This is an important question because it determines:

  • Could you possibly be eligible for an Acceptable Solution (more about that in a future blog). An Acceptable Solution simplifies compliance. We can help you comply.

  • If you aren't eligible for an Acceptable Solution (or don't comply with the entire Acceptable Solution) then the size and type of supply determines the Rules you must meet. We can guide you through all the Rules required for your type of supply.

  • If you aren't eligible for an Acceptable Solution (or don't comply with the entire Acceptable Solution), you also need a DWSP and SWRMP. We can draft or review your DWSP and SWRMP.

The first point we consider is how many people you supply and under what circumstances.

Very Small Community

  • Any configuration

  • Up to 25 people

  • May increase to up to 50 people for 60 days in 12 months

Water Carrier Supplies

  • Water tankers

Community Drinking Water Stations

  • Single point of supply for community (not part of network supply)

Temporary Drinking Water Supplies

  • Planned events (e.g. festivals)

Small Self-Supplied Building

  • Up to 10 buildings on one site (within the boundaries of one property, or within the boundaries of two or more properties with common ownership arrangements)

  • 26 – 100 people

Medium Self-Supplied Building

  • Up to 10 buildings on one site (within the boundaries of one property, or within the boundaries of two or more properties with common ownership arrangements)

  • 101– 500 people

Large Self-Supplied Building

  • Up to 10 buildings on one site (within the boundaries of one property, or within the boundaries of two or more properties with common ownership arrangements)

  • > 500 people

Small Networked Supply

  • Distribution system

  • 26 – 100 people

Medium Networked Supply

  • Distribution system

  • 101– 500 people

Large Networked Supply

  • Distribution system

  • > 500 people

If you have a small or medium supply, there are additional Rules for if your population temporarily increases.

There are also different Rules for different sources, treatment plants, and distribution zones.
